A woman in the Philippines has gone viral after being caught pulling the same trick on several people for money. The incident came to light after a generous stranger (original poster) who fell victim to the woman’s cry for help posted her experience on Facebook. And this opened a can of worms, as many others came out to share similar experiences with the same woman.

According to Must Share News, the woman first approached the original poster at a shopping mall asking for 150 pesos (RM11), saying she needed it for transport to go home and food. She claimed to live 50km away from the mall. As the original poster was about to hand over the money, she quickly upped the request to 200 pesos (RM15) so she could “also buy food”. Feeling sorry for her, the kind original poster gave her the money.

“I was dumb at this point because I didn’t realise I was already being scammed”, the original poster shared.

One week later, the original poster was with a friend when the same woman was spotted again. She approached the original poster’s friend for money for food and fare again. When the friend offered 5 pesos (RM0.40), the woman laughed and refused to accept the money.

Later that day, the original poster bumped into the woman at Jollibee, happily eating with a man who seemed to be her boyfriend. The man was feeding her, and they seemed to be on a date.

“My friend asked if it was okay to just give 5 pesos since she claimed ANY AMOUNT would do, but she only laughed and refused to take it.”

That sight immediately made the original poster suspicious, and when the story was shared online, more people started coming forward. Many said they had been approached by the same woman with the same story.

“She also asked me for 50 pesos because she didn’t have enough to go back to Calinan. She said she came from Matina and got lost, then asked me for 50 pesos in Roxas. I gave her money, but a month later she approached my friend at a Davao mall with the same excuse. That’s when I realised she was a scammer!”

To make things even juicier, a netizen claiming to be a former Jollibee cashier said the woman used to dine at the outlet regularly. They described her as picky, always ordering in person instead of using self-service kiosks, and even showing off her wallet while making demands.

“She used to be my customer at Jollibee Bolton when I worked as a cashier. She came several times and was always very demanding, even showing me her wallet while ordering. She refused to use the kiosk and insisted on ordering at the counter. I didn’t think much of it then, but that’s why I can’t forget her face.”

In a way, the woman’s actions highlight how far some people are willing to go just to survive. Whether it was truly out of desperation or simply a scheme to live comfortably at others’ expense, it shows that survival can push people into exploiting kindness as a resource.

At the end of the day, this story serves as a reminder that not every sob story on the streets is genuine. While many people are quick to lend a helping hand out of kindness, cases like this show how some individuals take advantage of compassion for their own gain.
