Should couples share or keep it separate? <\/strong><\/h2> \n

Managing your own personal finances is already a challenge, and can get even trickier when you are in a relationship and both of you need to juggle your finances together. Whether you\u2019re married, engaged or in a long-term relationship, the \u2018money talk\u2019, while a sensitive subject to some, must be done.<\/p> \n

Up until the 20th<\/sup> century, the notion has always been that the man will pay for the lady\u2019s meal and men will be the provider of the family. But in this day and age, many couples share finances and both contribute to the household. While the level of relationship matters when it comes to how they handle the finances, financial disclosure should be the norm in a serious relationship and is especially vital for committed relationship.<\/p> \n

So how do you decide what each partner should pay for? <\/strong><\/h2> \n

Firstly, you will both have to figure out a system to manage your money as a couple and come to an agreement as to how both of you would like to split the bills.  We\u2019d like to suggest a fair way splitting expenses as a couple.  Let\u2019s take Adam and Sarah as an example.<\/p> \n

There is no hard and fast way of dividing expenses in a relationship, but there should be the element of give and take. While both should contribute equally to the growth and success of the relationship, this may not be case when one partner forgoes working, or earning an income, such as a stay-at-home mum. Ultimately, there is no one size fits all way on how to split the bills and who pays for what, it makes sense to map out a budget.<\/p> \n
