In just under one month, the fund has garnered an impressive amount!<\/p> \n<!--more--><p>See also:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparehero.my\/blog\/malaysia-trillion-ringgit-debt\">How Serious Is Malaysia\u2019s RM1 Trillion Debt?<\/a><\/p> \n<p>Tabung Harapan Malaysia (THM) is managed by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) donations<span style=\"font-size: 1.3rem;\">&nbsp;are to be deposited to a Malayan Banking Berhad (Maybank) account under the Jabatan Akauntan Negara (<\/span>Account No<b style=\"font-size: 1.3rem;\">:<\/b><span style=\"font-size: 1.3rem;\">&nbsp;566010626452). All donations are tax deductible.<\/span><\/p> \n<p>Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, did explain that the official trust fund, besides helping to pay off the national debt, is for the people to show patriotism and unity. However, these&nbsp;noble intentions of Tabung Harapan have been met with critical and sometimes distasteful comments. There was even a Twitter thread on how the government should have opened an account in Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), instead of Maybank. So we realized many netizens still don&#8217;t know the role of BNM.<\/p> \n<hr> \n<p>Well, for those who don&#8217;t know, BNM is the <strong>central bank of Malaysia<\/strong> and serves as the nation\u2019s <strong>monetary authority<\/strong>. That basically means, they are:<\/p> \n<ul> \n <li>The sole authority that issues Malaysia\u2019s national currency<\/li> \n <li>Advising the government on&nbsp;macroeconomic policies and public debt management<\/li> \n <li>Ensuring all economic sectors and segments of the society have access to financial services<\/li> \n <li>Overseeing the efficiency and security of Malaysia\u2019s financial systems<\/li> \n<\/ul> \n<p>BNM is definitely not the place to do your usual banking matters. You can learn more about Bank Negara and what they do on their website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bnm.gov.my\/index.php?ch=en_about&amp;pg=en_intro&amp;lang=en\">here<\/a>.<\/p> \n<hr> \n<p>While it is highly encouraged for Malaysians to play a part in this movement, extreme precaution must be taken as there have been fake THM posters bearing a fake account number circulating on social media,&nbsp;as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com.my\/news\/nation\/2018\/06\/01\/beware-of-fake-tabung-harapan-account-number\/\">The Star<\/a>. Don\u2019t fall for them!&nbsp;Those who plan to deposit money into the account are recommended to double check the account number and account holder name before confirming their donation.<\/p> \n<p>It was also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.malaymail.com\/s\/1638607\/mof-to-appoint-external-auditor-for-tabung-harapan\">reported<\/a> that MOF will appoint an external auditor to audit THM. While we wait for that announcement of the official auditor, we certainly expect to hear how the fund can be fault-proof against discrepancies and fraud.
