More people on the road means more cars and heavier traffic jams.<\/p> \n<!--more--><p><strong>Related<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comparehero.my\/transportation\/articles\/save-petrol-fuel-bills-car\">5 Ways Malaysians Can Save On Their Monthly Petrol Bills<\/a><\/p> \n<p>Now, during the MCO, as our main task was to stay home and be safe, the government extended the deadline for road users to renew their road tax and driving license. At present, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com.my\/news\/nation\/2021\/09\/03\/dr-wee-driving-licence-road-tax-renewal-deadline-extended-to-dec-31\"><strong>you have up until 31st December 2021 to do this<\/strong><\/a>. Simply put, if you drive around with an expired road tax or driving license now, you won\u2019t get in trouble with the traffic police.<\/p> \n<p>However, if you are able to renew your documents ASAP please do so as you wouldn\u2019t want to be rushing on the last day of the year to get this sorted.<\/p> \n<h2>You can\u2019t have an expired car insurance<\/h2> \n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/144634072.fs1.hubspotusercontent-eu1.net\/hubfs\/144634072\/assets_comparehero\/renew-car-insurance-road-tax-license-01.jpg?resize=640%2C335&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"renew-car-insurance-road-tax-license-01\" width=\"640\" height=\"335\"><\/p> \n<p>Speaking of documents, road users in Malaysia need to carry 3 important documents with them:<\/p> \n<ul> \n <li aria-level=\"1\">Road tax<\/li> \n <li aria-level=\"1\">Driver\u2019s license<\/li> \n <li aria-level=\"1\">Vehicle insurance<\/li> \n<\/ul> \n<p>As mentioned above, you can renew your road tax and driver\u2019s license later this year, but <strong>this leeway doesn\u2019t apply to the insurance for your vehicle<\/strong>.<\/p> \n<p>Minister of Transportation, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has said:<\/p> \n<blockquote> \n <p><strong>\u201cMotorists with expired road tax must, however, ensure that the insurance for their vehicles are valid.<\/strong><\/p> \n <p><strong>\u201cThey must display their insurance e-cover note for authorities to check,\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p> \n <p>-Quoted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com.my\/news\/nation\/2021\/09\/03\/dr-wee-driving-licence-road-tax-renewal-deadline-extended-to-dec-31\">The Star<\/a>, 3rd September 2021<\/p> \n<\/blockquote> \n<p>In case you didn\u2019t already know, it\u2019s an offence not to renew your vehicle insurance once it expires. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mbi.gov.my\/sites\/default\/files\/road_transport_act_1987.pdf\">Section 58 of the Road Transport Act 1987<\/a> says:<\/p> \n<p><strong>Any person in charge of a motor vehicle on a road<\/strong> shall, on being so required by any police officer, any traffic warden or any road transport officer, <strong>produce the certificate of insurance<\/strong> issued in respect of the vehicle\u2026<\/p> \n<p>The section goes on to mention:<\/p> \n<p>If any person <strong>fails to comply<\/strong> with this section,<strong> he shall be guilty of an offence<\/strong>.<\/p> \n<p>You get the drift: You need to show your vehicle insurance if you\u2019re asked for it, and if you don\u2019t, you can be penalized. But don\u2019t fret, as the section also later says that <b>you have up to 5 days to produce your insurance certificate <\/b>if you don\u2019t have it with you then and there.<\/p> \n<h2>Why is vehicle insurance needed?<\/h2> \n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/144634072.fs1.hubspotusercontent-eu1.net\/hubfs\/144634072\/assets_comparehero\/renew-car-insurance-road-tax-license-02.jpg?resize=640%2C335&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"renew-car-insurance-road-tax-license-02\" width=\"640\" height=\"335\"><\/p> \n<p>Okay, so this might be a no-brainer.
