To discourage people from making <a href=\"https:\/\/rpstagingdot.wpcomstaging.com\/credit-card\/articles\/use-credit-cards-responsibly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">minimum monthly payments<\/a> (or spending past their repayment ability), a few banks have made revisions to their terms &amp; conditions. Read on to find out.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/rpstagingdot.wpcomstaging.com\/credit-card\/partners\/citibank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Citibank<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Citibank has updated its definition of a &#8220;minimum monthly payment&#8221; in its terms &amp; conditions. It is now defined as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>5% of *outstanding balance (if any);<br \/>\n*outstanding balance refers to retail transactions + Balance Transfer amount + Cash advance amount + finance charges and fees<\/li>\n<li>100% service tax;<\/li>\n<li>100% Monthly Instalments;<\/li>\n<li>100% past due amount; OR<\/li>\n<li>RM50, whichever is higher<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the current balance is below RM50, then the minimum monthly payment would be 100% of the current balance.<\/p>\n<p>The new definition is effective 27th July 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citibank.com.my\/global_docs\/pdf\/Revisions_to_Citi_Credit_Cards_Jul_2019.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Citibank<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/rpstagingdot.wpcomstaging.com\/credit-card\/partners\/hsbc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HSBC<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Alongside several other revisions of its terms &amp; conditions, HSBC has also updated their definition of &#8220;minimum monthly payment&#8221; to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum monthly payment payable on a due date that&#8217;s calculated based on:\n<ul>\n<li>5% of Current Balance + 100% monthly instalment of Credit Card Instalment Plans + unpaid minimum payment in the preceding month&#8217;s statement; OR RM50, whichever higher.<\/li>\n<li>OR if the Card Account exceeds the Credit Limit, 5% of the Current Balance + 100% monthly instalment of Credit Card Instalment Plans + any unpaid minimum payment in the preceding month&#8217;s statement + Overlimit*\n<ul>\n<li>*Overlimit means the amount used on the credit card that exceeds the Credit Limit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The revised definition will only be effective 2nd October 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.hsbc.com.my\/content\/dam\/hsbc\/my\/docs\/universal-bank\/notice-of-changes\/2019-july-revision-terms-and-conditions.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HSBC<\/a> &#8211; click to read the other revisions too.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/rpstagingdot.wpcomstaging.com\/credit-card\/partners\/hong-leong\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hong Leong Bank<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Like the other banks, Hong Leong Bank is also making revisions to several clauses in its terms and conditions.
