What Is The Maybank Cash Back Mastercard Platinum?

The Maybank Cash Back Mastercard Platinum offers up to 8% cashback on everyday spending, like dining, ride-hailing, and streaming. It has no annual fee.

How Much Cashback Can Cardholders Earn With Maybank Cash Back Mastercard Platinum?

The 8% cashback rate covers three categories:

  • Dining, including online delivery
  • Digital lifestyle spending, like ride-hailing and online groceries
  • Online entertainment, like streaming, gaming, and app store purchases

To get the 8% rate, cardholders need to spend at least RM1,500 in retail purchases that month. Below that amount, the rate drops to 0.2%. Each category has a monthly cap of RM18 cashback. The most a cardholder can earn from all three combined is RM54 a month, or RM648 a year. Every other purchase earns a flat 0.2%, with no cap.

How Does The 0% FX Mark-Up Work?

This card removes Maybank's own currency conversion fee for tap-and-swipe payments in Singapore, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, or Indonesia.

However, Mastercard still charges its own 1.25% fee on top, and it only works for in-person payments, not online purchases in foreign currency.

What Other Fees Should Cardholders Know About?

A few other charges can apply, depending on how the card is used:

  • Cash withdrawal: 2.52% of the amount, or RM11.65, whichever is more
  • Annual service tax: RM25 per card (a government fee, not a bank charge)
  • Card replacement: RM50
  • Dishonoured cheque: RM100
  • Sales receipt copy: RM15
  • Old statement request: RM5 to RM10 a month, depending on how far back

Who Can Apply For This Card?

Applicants need to earn at least RM24,000 a year. A principal cardholder must be between 21 and 65 years old. A supplementary cardholder must be between 18 and 65 years old.

Expatriates working in Malaysia can also apply, as long as they provide proof of their employment contract.

What Documents Are Needed To Apply?

The documents you need depend partly on how you're employed, but every application starts with these:

  • Copy of your NRIC (both sides) or passport, and the same for any supplementary cardholder
  • Latest BE form with official tax receipt
  • Last 3 months' payslips
  • Last 6 months' bank statement

If you're self-employed:

  • Business Registration
  • 6 months of bank statements

If you're an expatriate:

  • Letter from employer confirming duration of employment contract in Malaysia

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

When is the payment due date for this card?
The payment due date falls 20 days after the closing date of each monthly statement, with the exact date shown on the relevant statement.
What happens if the card is lost or stolen?
Maybank needs to be notified immediately by email, fax, or phone, followed by a police report as soon as possible. Liability for unauthorised transactions doesn't apply if the loss is reported promptly and the PIN hasn't been disclosed to anyone. A replacement card costs RM50.
Does a supplementary card come with its own fee?
No separate fee applies. Since the annual fee for this card is free for life, that coverage extends to any supplementary cards issued under the same account.
