Who is eligible for AmBank Islamic Personal Financing-i?

Government employees can apply if they're permanent staff of the Federal or State Government, or a select Statutory Body, and have been in service for at least three months. The minimum income requirement is RM1,500 a month.

Private sector and GLC employees can apply too, though they won't get the lower profit rate reserved for government servants. Applicants can confirm directly with AmBank Islamic whether their employer is on the approved list.

What's the borrowing limit?

Loan amounts range from RM5,000 to RM200,000, over terms of two to ten years, subject to a credit evaluation.

Government employees pay a flat 3.35% per annum for the entire tenure. Private sector and GLC applicants pay a flat 8.50% per annum instead.

What fees come with this financing?

There's a RM10 charge for the Letter of Approval, plus Government Stamp Duty of 0.50% on the total amount borrowed.

Repayments run through salary deduction via Biro Perkhidmatan Angkasa, which comes with its own 2% auto deduction fee added on top of each instalment.

How does monthly repayment work?

Repayments begin in the third month after approval. Each instalment covers the principal plus that month's profit charge, right through to the end of the tenure.

Miss a payment and a 1% per annum penalty kicks in on the outstanding balance, calculated daily.

Borrowers who want to settle early need to give AmBank Islamic one month's written notice. There's no penalty for this — instead, they can expect an Ibra' (rebate).

Is Takaful coverage compulsory?

No, it's optional. Coverage is underwritten by AmMetLife Takaful Berhad, with a one-off premium based on the loan amount, tenure, and the applicant's age.

If the borrower passes away or becomes permanently disabled, this coverage settles the outstanding financing so the family isn't left with the repayment.

What are the advantages of this financing?

  • Shariah-compliant, structured under the Bai' Inah (sale and buyback) contract
  • Payout of up to 99.5%, with competitive pricing
  • Unsecured and no guarantor or collateral needed
  • Up to 3 months' deferment period
  • No advance instalments required
  • No monthly membership fee
  • Higher financing limits, plus longer and more flexible repayment tenures
  • Rebate on early settlement
  • Optional Takaful coverage
  • Wakil and Trading fees waived

What documents does the application require?

  • 3 copies of IC (front and back), certified true by the applicant's Head of Department
  • Latest 1-month salary slip, with 2 certified true copies (3 copies for e-payslips)
  • 1 copy of the savings or current account statement or passbook the financing will be credited into, showing name and account number

Can someone with a poor credit history still apply?

Credit history with other financial institutions plays a role here, since debts like credit cards, personal loans, home loans, and car loans all show up in CCRIS/CTOS. These are credit reporting systems, not blacklists.

Anyone with a history of late payments is better off breaking that habit and paying on time going forward. AmBank Islamic tends to favour applicants who can show they're managing their finances well, rather than those piling on more debt.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Yes, it runs on the Bai' Inah (sale and buyback) contract.
The lower 3.35% rate is reserved for government employees. Private sector and GLC applicants are charged 8.50% per annum instead.
No. This is an unsecured facility, so no guarantor or collateral is required.
Yes, a 1% per annum penalty applies on the outstanding balance, calculated daily.
No penalty applies. Borrowers just need to give one month's written notice and can expect a rebate (Ibra') on the remaining profit.
Not necessarily. CCRIS/CTOS records show credit history rather than a blacklist, so approval still comes down to how well an applicant is managing their finances now.
