Product Review by CompareHero

Who is eligible for Bank Islam Personal Financing-i Package?

Only Government employees, staff at Government Linked Companies and Public Listed Companies, and employees at selected private limited companies can apply.

Applicants need to earn at least RM2,000 a month. Those borrowing more than RM300,000 need to earn at least RM8,000 a month instead.

What does this Bank Islam Personal Financing-i Package offer?

The profit rate is floating (it can change over time), and applicants can choose to take the financing with or without Takaful coverage.

For Government employees:

Coverage Tenure Floating Rate
With Takaful 1–3 years SBR + 2.43% = 5.18%
With Takaful 4–10 years SBR + 2.50% = 5.25%
Without Takaful 1–3 years SBR + 4.40% = 7.15%
Without Takaful 4–10 years SBR + 6.30% = 9.05%

For non-Government employees:

Coverage Tenure Floating Rate
With Takaful 1–3 years SBR + 2.43% = 5.18%
With Takaful 4–10 years SBR + 2.85% = 5.60%
Without Takaful 1–3 years SBR + 4.40% = 7.15%
Without Takaful 4–10 years SBR + 6.30% = 9.05%

*Bank Islam's Standardised Base Rate (SBR) is currently 2.75% a year, effective 10 July 2025.

Applicants can borrow between RM10,000 and RM400,000, with up to ten years to repay.

How are monthly instalments repaid?

Instalments are paid either by salary deduction, or by salary transfer with auto-debit set up.

Paying late adds a 1% charge on the outstanding balance, so it's worth keeping payments on time.

Is early settlement allowed?

Yes. Financing can be settled any time before the end of the tenure, with no lock-in period and no penalty.

Borrowers get back an Ibra' (rebate) instead, equal to the profit charges they haven't paid yet.

What documents does the application need?

No guarantor, deposit, or collateral is needed, since this financing is unsecured. Applicants do need to submit:

  • Copy of IC (front and back)
  • Latest 3 months' salary slips
  • Latest 3 months' bank savings account passbook or current/savings account statement
  • Latest employer's confirmation letter
  • Either an EPF statement or the latest income tax form (Form B or Form EA/EC)

Can someone with a poor credit history still apply?

Credit history with other financial institutions matters here, since debts like credit cards, personal loans, home loans, and car loans all show up in CCRIS/CTOS. These systems record credit history, they don't blacklist people.

Anyone with a history of late payments is better off breaking that habit and paying on time from now on. Bank Islam is more likely to approve applicants who show they're managing their money well, rather than taking on more debt.
