Alliance Bank cardholders now have another way to make payments digitally, with Apple Pay support added for eligible Visa Credit Cards. The rollout allows customers to link their cards to Apple’s mobile wallet and pay using compatible devices.
More Ways To Pay Digitally
With Apple Pay set up, there’s no need to carry the physical card around. It works on compatible iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac devices running supported versions of Apple’s software.
Apple doesn’t charge anything extra for using it, though the usual fees on the underlying Alliance Bank Visa Credit Card still apply. Cashback and reward points carry over too, subject to the card’s terms and conditions.
Unlike physical contactless cards, which are capped at RM250 per tap under Bank Negara Malaysia’s rules, Apple Pay transactions are not subject to the same limit. Instead, spending is restricted only by the cardholder’s available credit limit.
Security Features For Digital Payments
For cardholders who are concerned about using digital wallets, Apple Pay adds protection by keeping the actual card number hidden during transactions. The service uses tokenisation, which replaces card details with a unique token when processing payments.
As a result, merchants do not see the card details, and the card number itself is not stored on the device or Apple’s servers. Each payment still requires verification through Face ID, Touch ID, Optic ID or a device passcode.
If a device is lost or stolen, cardholders can contact Alliance Bank’s Contact Centre to deactivate the tokenised card without cancelling the underlying physical card.
Supported Alliance Bank Visa Credit Cards
Apple Pay support is available for eligible Alliance Bank Visa Credit Cards, including the Visa Virtual Credit Card, Visa Infinite Credit Card, Visa Signature Credit Card and Visa Platinum Credit Card.
Visa Virtual Credit Card holders can link their card through the allianceonline app, while physical cardholders can add their card through Apple Wallet.
Families using Alliance Bank’s Friend or Family Card feature can also add their supplementary cards to Apple Pay, allowing each member to make payments from their own card.
