Who doesn’t love Japanese food? It’s one of those cuisines that I’m always in the mood for and being a huge fan, I’m always on the lookout for all-you-can-eat buffets in KL. Bring on the sashimi, fresh oysters, teppanyaki, teriyaki, dons and sushi.

I know I’m not alone, so I bring you a collection of Japanese buffets and ala carte buffets for your dining pleasure. I’ve grouped them in ascending order, with the cheapest buffets first, followed by the progressively expensive ones.

Suki-Ya Steamboat Buffet, RM32 – RM40

Pork-free restaurant

Every time you walk past a Suki-Ya outlet in its various mall locations, you can’t help but almost stop in your tracks. The tantalising smell of its various soup bases from shabu shabu, miso, sukiyaki, and kimchi is enough to pull you in.

Choose your preferred broths, pick your favourite meats and vegetables and dip it into the boiling broth. Once ready, you can dip the meats into the raw egg and enjoy! You can also opt for udon or rice to go with your meal.

The outlets are almost always packed and busy so it’s best to call and make reservations first, especially if you’re in a larger group.

This has to be one of the best value-for-money restaurants at only RM32 per adult for lunch and RM39.80 per adult for dinner. You can have up to 120 minutes to eat all you want, and every additional 15mins is charged RM3.50.

Price for lunch: Adult RM31.90; Child (under 12) 50% buffet price
Price for dinner: Adult RM39.80; Child (under 12) 50% buffet price

Address: Multiple outlets in KL, for a full list click here.

Availability: Daily between 11:30am – 5pm (Lunch) and 5pm – 10pm (Dinner). Weekends and Public Holiday additional RM2.

Maiu Japanese Buffet, RM48

Enjoy their all you can eat ala carte buffet with free flow of food and refreshments, including fresh sashimi. There isn’t much variation in most Japanese buffets so you know what to expect with Japanese food.

However, we will say the Maiu prices are one of the cheapest in town.

Price: RM48.80++

Address: 3 outlets in Jalan Kuching, Damansara Perdana, and Seri Petaling. For the full address, click here.

Availability: Daily between 11:30am – 2:30pm (Lunch) and 6pm – 10:30pm (Dinner).

Kinjuku Buffet, RM50 – RM70

The restaurant has recently added 70 new dishes to its buffet menu bringing you 170 dishes to pick from! If that’s not a feast, I don’t know what is. Some standouts include the cheese grilled oyster, kimchi fried rice (though that isn’t traditionally Japanese), smoked duck, and koebi karaage (crunchy deep fried prawns) to name a few.

Their sashimi selection includes the usual but they even have raw mackerel. I’m used to the mackerel being grilled with salt, but here you can enjoy it raw with a special marinade.

They even have Häagen-Dazs and New Zealand natural ice cream, but if you really want to treat yourself, indulge in the Hanjuku baked cheese tarts. This takes 20 minutes to prepare so best to order it in advance.

Price for lunch: *RM49++ on weekdays; *RM58++ on weekends
Price for dinner: *RM58++ on weekdays; *RM65++ on weekends

*These prices are only for members. Non-members dine for RM77++. The fee to become a member is RM30.

Shogun & Saisaki Japanese Buffet, RM57 – RM74

Pork-free restaurant.

Enjoy a spread of sashimi, various types of sushi, chawan mushi, ramen and soba, and even fresh oysters either blanched or baked (depending on your preference). But you may also find other cuisines at this buffet including sup tulang kambing, tom yam soup, and Korean BBQ.

If you’re in the mood for a little bit of everything, this could be the buffet for you and at an affordable price too!

One of the best promotions Shogun & Saisaki have is their birthday redemption which allows you to enjoy their buffet for FREE provided that you dine-in date is 3 days before or after your actual birthday. However, you need to be accompanied by 3 paying guests, and you must provide verification for this promotion to be redeemed either via your IC or passport.

Sozo Japanese Ala Carte Buffet, RM65 – RM75

Known best for their sashimi and sushi, we recommend their unagi roll. The chilli scallops are one of their signature dishes so be sure to try that. Best to call in advance for reservations.

But don’t limit yourself there. Their buffet spread boasts over 140 dishes for you to pick from so we’re sure you’re in for a treat.

Mitasu Japanese Ala Carte Buffet, RM75

Pork-free restaurant

Personally, one of my favourites for an all-you-can-eat buffet. To date, Mitasu hasn’t disappointed in quality and offers a diverse spread of sashimi, sushi, temaki, makimono, cold cuts, yasai, yakimono, salad, soup, tempura, teppanyaki, agemono, nabemono, noodles, mini donburi, dessert and ice cream.

Personal top picks include the salmon and butterfish sashimi, fresh oysters, mackerel, smoked duck salad, beef butteryaki, and black sesame ice cream to name a few.

The best part? It’s an ala carte buffet so you don’t ever have to leave your table. Just be sure not to overdo the indulgence as Mitasu charges for food wastage at RM10 for every 100g.

The buffet is only available for dinner between 6pm – 10pm daily.
