It was an operation where high‑end style crashed into enforcement.

Over the course of 3 solid days around the Kuala Lumpur area, the Road Transport Department (JPJ), carried out “Ops Luxury 2.0” and ended up snagging a jaw‑dropping 53 luxury cars. Among them, slotted proudly in the impound lot, was a Rolls‑Royce Cullinan worth RM3 million belonging to a well known local businessman.

Digging deeper, JPJ discovered some eye‑openers

JPJ’s senior enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan spoke to the press and laid out what went down.

The seizures were conducted from 30th July until 1st August. The luxury fleet hauled in included 2 Lamborghinis, a Huracan and an Urus, plus a BMW i8 and an Aston Martin DBX. The grounds for seizure were strikingly simple: expired road tax, lack of valid insurance, driving without licenses or with dubious international permits and even unregistered number plates.

At least 3 of the vehicles were being operated by foreign drivers with no valid road tax or insurance. One driver even produced what turned out to be a fake international driving permit allegedly bought in Dubai for RM5,000. A number of the supercars had reportedly not renewed road tax since 2022.

"During the operation, we also detected three vehicles driven by foreigners without valid driver's licences. One of them was carrying an international driver's licence, which upon further checks was revealed to be fake. The man claimed he purchased the document in Dubai for RM5,000”, Kifli said.

JPJ zeroed in on luxury vehicles flagged by undercover personnel

Kifli explained that these luxury vehicles were tracked down by the department’s personnel who conducted surveillance and undercover operations.

"Based on our observations, many of the vehicle owners claimed they simply forgot to renew their road tax and insurance. What they are actually doing is making a mockery of our road rules”, said Kifli.

Kifli also stressed that these operations will continue to be conducted periodically to preserve the integrity of the national transportation system.

"We will not compromise with any party that violates road transport laws.”
