When the news dropped that a concert ticket scheme involved adopting fledgling calves it felt like something out of left field, but it really happened and the buzz online is electric.
South China Morning Press reported that organisers of a sell‑out show by one of China’s hottest stars, Yi Yangqianxi, better known as Jackson Yee, have sparked a storm by offering top‑notch seats in exchange for adopting calves.
When sales began on July 24 for the August 2 show, tickets sold out within seconds. On resale platforms some of the best seats fetched as much as 80,000 yuan, roughly RM47,200.
Enter the calf adoption twist
A public welfare initiative launched by Xiangyang Public Welfare Development Centre in Huaihua, in central Hunan province offered a novel way to snag premium seats. If you adopt 12 calves at 120,000 yuan, about RM70,850, you're granted a highly coveted “infield” seat, which is typically considered the best spot at the venue. Anyone who adopts 8 calves for 80,000 yuan will be given a randomly selected ticket. Those who choose to adopt 10 calves for 100,000 yuan, around RM59,000, will receive 2 tickets of the same type.
“Yes, this project is real. Some people have already received the tickets through this channel”, a worker from the public welfare organisation told SCMP.
The calves are placed with farmers and after about 2 years they are part of the food supply chain. Adopters can choose to receive raw beef, processed snacks or share in profits from sales.
“This project is designed to help farmers earn more money,” the worker said.
One thing is clear… when the world of entertainment meets a cattle‑adoption campaign the result is pure headline gold!
