Back in 2021, a Malaysian collector purchased a limited‑edition Bearbrick figurine for a jaw‑dropping RM 230,000. At the time, it was one of those ultra‑rare collectibles that investors dream about, a status symbol in the niche world of designer toy collecting. Fast forward to now, 4 years later and the reality has hit hard: after slashing the price by a massive RM100,000, he still cannot find a single buyer for his prized Bearbrick.

According to Sin Chew Daily, he went public on Facebook, sharing the frustration of watching its resale value collapse. He revealed that even with the lowered price of RM130,000 nobody was willing to take it off his hands. That meant a five‑figure loss was inevitable unless something changed fast.

Internet onlookers reacted with sympathy

Netizens however commented that this is the lesson to be learnt by those who are constantly chasing after latest trends, as when the hype fades, the value reduces as well. Some even commented that Labubu might suffer the same fate in future.

"Just because the market price for Bearbrick has dropped to RM130,000 doesn't mean you are able to sell it", commented a netizen.

"This hard plastic model costs less than RM100. I wouldn't even take it if you gave it to me", another brutally honest comment read.

This story exposed a sharp reversal in demand. Where once the piece was coveted and presumably valuable, interest dried up. It became a vivid symbol of just how volatile the collectible toy market can be. Speculation, hype and rarity may have pushed the original price into astronomical territory. But when the novelty faded, the resale floor dropped right out.
