Imagine scrolling through TikTok on an ordinary day and suddenly doing a double take because someone is renting out a room in Kuala Lumpur for RM650 a month… and it looks eerily like a miniature grave.

That was the scene when @serembanpage posted a TikTok that instantly exploded online. The image shows a single bed squeezed so tightly between 2 walls that there is barely a one-foot strip of floor left on one side. Two water bottles sit planted on the tiled ground, like silent witnesses to the absurdity. At the end of the room, a tall, narrow window peeks out, covered by a half-tied black curtain that reveals not much more than rooftops and distant high rises. The caption reads with deadpan sincerity:

“Fall off the bed and you’d be stuck to the wall. Nice view. How much do you guys think the rent is? The answer is RM650 a month”.

The so-called “selling point” of the room is the fact that it offers a glimpse of Kuala Lumpur’s skyline, which the landlord seems to think justifies the price.

Malaysians were floored

Netizens went straight for the jugular, commenting that the size of the room is no different from a grave. One joked that you could get the same view at a rooftop bar without needing to live in a coffin-like cell. Another pointed out that what good is a million-ringgit view when you do not even have space to stretch your legs?

"A hotel would be cheaper. There's even housekeeping."

"Buy a car, and sleep in it. The space seems the same. At least end of the day, the car is yours."

"A hotel would be better. RM450 only a month."

"Are you expected to pray on the mattress?"

"Why are rooms getting smaller but the rental is getting higher?"

"RM650 to rent the room or rent the view?"

In other words, the “million-ringgit view” excuse does not cut it. At the end of the day, what good is a window facing the city when you barely have space to stretch your legs?
