Want an easier and faster way to make payments when you shop online? A digital wallet is the way to go. We’ve rounded up 3 of the most trusted platforms – Visa Checkout, PayPal and MasterPass – to help you decide the best one for you.

Online shopping offers many great conveniences like not having to fight for parking spots and shopping from the comfort of your home or even when you’re on the go via mobile apps. But there might be one part of online shopping that annoys many of us. Each time an online purchase is made, there are several steps and forms that needs to filled up. You may also be redirected to your bank’s website. What if we told you that you don’t have to do that anymore? You can now skip all those steps thanks to these 3 digital wallets.

Paying for your goodies can now be faster when you make purchases online. All you have to do is register your existing credit or debit cards with any one of these digital wallet platforms.

Online Shopping Made Easier With Visa Checkout

Sign-up with Visa Checkout and save your shipping details and your Visa prepaid, debit, and credit cards for a simplified online shopping experience. Once you have an account with Visa Checkout, the next time you’re at the payment page, simply select Visa Checkout as your preferred payment method. Since you have all your details saved into a single account, you no longer have to fill up any forms or other details. A single sign-in with Visa Checkout removes all that for you!

The best part of Visa Checkout is that it is free, and it works with all credit card and debit cards, not just those issued by Visa. If you have an Amex or MasterCard debit or credit card, you can also use Visa Checkout.

It is available on multiple devices, so don’t worry if you’re shopping online from your desktop or your mobile phone. Currently Visa Checkout is accepted at various online merchants in Malaysia such as Golden Screen Cinemas, Malindo Air, Superbuy.my and at more than 200+ other online merchants. Check out the video below to see how easy it is!

Faster Way To Pay With PayPal

Pay for items and services and track your spending with PayPal. You will first have to create a personal account on PayPal then link a credit or debit card to your account. There are three types of accounts on PayPal which are personal, premier and business. If you only intend to use it to shop and pay online, a personal account would be ideal and it’s free! The business and premier account is also free but there will be transactions fees. For a personal account, there are no transaction fees for payments sent through PayPal balance and eChecks. eChecks is a type of electronic payment made by using your bank account. But if your friends transfer money to your PayPal account with a credit or debit card, it will incur transaction fees.

When you shop online with PayPal, you have the option to pay with your PayPal balance or with your credit or debit card. PayPal balance is a prepaid system which means you have to add funds into your PayPal account.  In the event that you do not have enough balance in your PayPal account, the amount needed for your purchase will then be deducted from the card that is linked to your PayPal account. If you do not want to link any credit or debit card, you can also just opt to use your PayPal account to make payments for your purchases by using the PayPal balance service.

However, you will have to top up your account and make sure you have sufficient PayPal balance before making a purchase. Do take note that the top up service is only available with an RHB account, and is currently not available for other Malaysian bank accounts. This makes it a bit harder for Malaysians who do not have a credit or debit card to use Paypal.

The Buyer Protection feature from PayPal is an added bonus if anything goes wrong with your transactions. It covers the customer in any instances that might put you in an unfair position, for example, if you were charged for something you did not purchase, or even if your purchase does not arrive or it does not match what was described by the seller. You can then get a full reimbursement. But you will have to submit your dispute within 180 days of the purchase and meet certain conditions such as have your account in good standing.

Here is the link to sign up with Paypal.

Shortcut For Online Shopping With Digital Wallet by MasterPass

You can now store all of your credit, debit, prepaid and even loyalty cards in one place by using MasterPass. You can even use other branded cards so MasterPass is not just limited to MasterCard cards. The way it works is similar to Visa Checkout where you are only required to sign up once to fill up your preferred cards and shipping details. Once you’ve done that, you can then bypass checkout forms when you shop at online stores that has the Buy with MasterPass option.

If you want an extra level of security, MasterPass also gives you the option of sending you a one-time use security code by text message, which you have to enter upon payment of each transaction. There is no fee to use MasterPass but if you opt to receive notifications about your MasterPass account via text message, you will incur charges from your mobile phone network carrier.

Our Verdict?

With Paypal, some online stores will redirect you to a separate login page when you want to make payment for your purchase. As for Visa Checkout, there will be a pop - up window so you get to stay on the checkout page without being redirected to another payment page. This makes Visa Checkout a more convenient payment option than PayPal. If you want the extra layer of security, you can opt for MasterPass which provides the Mobile Verification.

No matter which digital wallet option you choose, never share or write down your password, and always use passwords that are hard to guess.
