A recent Threads post has left Malaysians stunned after the original poster shared someone’s staggering SPayLater bill history. The single screenshot shared on social media set Malaysian netizens abuzz!

“Came across someone sharing their monthly SPayLater instalment bills. Hey, is this for a house?!”

The screenshot showed that between May and December 2024, the person accumulated a total of RM82,739.32 in SPayLater bills, with several months surpassing RM14,000.

The jaw‑dropping figures quickly went viral, with netizens flooding the comments in disbelief. Many questioned how anyone could rack up such an amount in just 8 months. Some wondered if the bills were tied to business expenses or high‑end luxury purchases, while others joked that the figure was higher than their annual salary. For many, the thought of owing more than RM14,000 in a single month felt unimaginable.

“RM13k huh? I have an RM170 limit and I feel heavy-hearted to utilise it.”

“SpayLater is like the credit card of today. Back then we used to just swipe away, but now with all these purchases, you don’t even realise how much you’ve spent. The last time I used SpayLater was a few years ago, then I stopped because it felt burdensome. Even though it was less than RM1k each month, if you pay late the amount would increase, so I decided to stop altogether.”

“My amount was only RM50 and I was feeling burdened.”

“I’m already stressed out paying close to RM100”

“I’m the type who’s spendthrift. At one point, my bill was RM600 a month. In the end, I just deactivated SpayLater completely because I was using it for everything.”

“And I thought mine was bad” – A netizen shared his monthly bill which was merely a fraction!

SPayLater, a “Buy Now, Pay Later” service offered on Shopee, allows users to purchase items and pay through instalments. While convenient, the viral post has reignited debate over how easily instalment plans can spiral out of control when not carefully managed.

SPL 4

“Heyyyy I thought mine was the highest at RM1k a month, but this person went straight to RM10k… no wonder bankers feel uneasy about Shopee, they probably don’t even get a taste of Malaysians’ money anymore.”

SPL 5

“I thought this was a Shopee affiliate’s salary. Was just about to congratulate them”.

To which the original poster responded saying,

“I was shocked as well. I’m wondering how much is their limit”.

“I don’t understand why people are asking how will the person pay for it. They know they can afford to pay the amount owing for that particular month, and that is why they are owing that much. It is as long as they pay on time. Same goes for any kind of debt.”
