As many of us were cooped up at home since last year, lots of people are now planning getaways where they can just enjoy nature.

Camping outdoors is one way this can be done but now, ‘glamping’ or glamorous camping has become a favourite.

Glamping allows people to relax outdoors while staying in some very pretty spaces instead of in traditional tents. So if you’re thinking of glamping anytime soon, here are some popular yet budget-friendly spots you can go to.

1. Glamz at Genting, Pahang

Situated in Genting Highlands, Glamz also doubles as an event venue besides just being a glamping spot. If you want to glamp here, you can choose between 3 types of dome rooms or a bell tent. There’s also the option of booking a barbecue pit. Your room will come with breakfast, but you can also omit this if you like.

Enjoy a meal with your favourite people while stargazing. Sounds good? We think so too!

Price: Upwards of RM200 (at the time of writing)

2. Dusun Bonda, Selangor

Literally meaning ‘Mother’s Orchard’, Dusun Bonda is located in a fruit orchard in Batang Kali. In this spot, you have the option of going with either a studio villa with a riverview or a bell tent. For the bell tent, you can select one with a riverview, by the poolside or by the hillside. All of these come with breakfast, which will be served from 7:30-11am.

There’s a waterfall within the area which you can trek to with a guide, but please note that there will be an extra charge for this.

Dusun Bonda is also just 1km away from another tourist attraction, the Hulu Tamu Hot Springs.

There are no housekeeping services here, but you can ask for cleaning supplies if you’d like to tidy up the place during your stay.

Price: RM350-RM800

3. Time Capsule Retreat, Pahang

Despite being one of the more popular glamping spots, Time Capsule Retreat also happens to be one of the cheapest.

It’s right beside Sungai Lembing, so you’re in for a real visual treat if you decide to stay here. Each capsule has its own shower area, but if you want to use a microwave or fridge, you’ll need to go to the shared kitchen area.

While Dusun Bonda  does not have housekeeping as well as WiFi, Time Capsule provides both of these. There’s also a garden on the site that you can relax in. Some of the capsules face the garden while there are some that give you a view of the jungle.

Price: RM99-RM398

4. Sea Horizon Resort, Johor

Similar to Glamz at Genting, Sea Horizon Resort also has domes for you to glamp in. The only difference is that here, you’ll get a view of the seaside instead of the jungle. The resort is actually located on a cliffside in a fishing village, and thus far it’s the only cliffside glamping spot in Malaysia.

Sea Horizon Resort also has normal rooms besides the glamping domes or suites, and all of these come with breakfast.

If you’re looking for something more to do, there’s a 250 million-year “Dinosaur Trail” rock formation just around the corner. You can also join the keropok lekor making workshop or cycle to the fishing village nearby,

Price: RM150-RM800

5. Gopeng Glamping Park, Perak

This spot has many glamping tents so you can expect a bit more crowd. At the same time, there are a lot more amenities here compared to some of the other places. It has a shuttle service, a 24-hour front desk, a concierge and tour desk as well as flexible check-in and check-out.

You can also enjoy some family entertainment with the Fire Show, Karaoke Set and traditional board games. Besides these, there’s a barbecue pit you can rent as well as kitchen facilities.

Price: RM158-RM408 on weekdays. Click here for weekend rates.

6. Umea Glam Kundasang, Sabah

The Land Below The Wind also has a glamping area with breathtaking views. Tucked away high up in the greenery of Kundasang, you’ll get to see trees and clouds all around you. It’s also said to be a great place for stargazing at night, which you can easily do from your glamping dome.

There are 4 domes here and each is named after a city in Sweden. The styling within the domes is also very Nordic, so if you want something Instagrammable, this is your place! If you’d like to visit some attractions nearby there’s the Kundasang Farmers’ Market and Desa Dairy Cattle Farm.

This one’s different from the rest, as it’s a lot more rustic-looking. The Sticks is located one hour away from Kuala Lumpur and it has 12 houses in total.

For smaller groups, you can select from one of the Serene Tandoks: The Bamboo House, The Serengeti Tent or the Riverside Tendok. If you’re going with more people, you can get one of the Family Rooms instead: The Ara, The Euca, The Nest, The Little Pitta, The Opera House or The Singing Shama.

There are also day-trip packages you can take that start at RM85.

Price: Starts from RM500

Please note that not all of these places may have Wi-Fi, so do ensure that you have sufficient mobile data when travelling. As Covid-19 is still around, please be mindful of any rules/regulations set in place and double check with the venue before heading there.
