How Much Can You Earn By Selling Ramly Burgers?

  • By CompareHero.my
  • February 18, 2021

If you are a burger addict, especially at odd hours of the night when it is almost time for your favourite drama, or you’re looking for one after a long day of work, the Ramly burger always saves the day. We can’t help but wonder, how much can we really earn from selling Ramly burgers?

Ramly Burger was founded in Malaysia in 1984, by Haji Ramli Mokni. The company’s main goal is to produce properly sourced, halal meat products. Besides burger patties, they also produce chicken wings, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, and even sauces.

However, many burger stalls today don’t necessarily use Ramly burger patties, the name has caught on amongst locals and no matter what type of patty used, it will always be a welcomed business because of its affordability and deliciousness.

How much do you need to start a Ramly burger stall?

If you are setting up a stall in front of your house, you will need to begin by buying the equipment: a metal burger stall, a gas stove, a solid table, a fluorescent light and some cooking utensils. Most of which can be found at kitchen products distribution stores, warehouses or even Mudah.my (for second-hand goods).

Estimation of costs

You will need an initial start-up capital of RM5,000 to RM6,000 depending on the brands and prices of the utensils you get:

  • Average price of a metal burger stall = RM2,000 to RM3,000
  • Average price of a gas stove = RM200 – RM500
  • Average price of a fluorescent light = Less than RM50
  • Average price of cooking utensils = RM500 to RM800

You will also need to prepare some cash flow (RM200 to RM400 per month?) for raw materials:

  • Buns
  • Margarine
  • Mayonnaise
  • Cheese
  • Ground white pepper
  • Chilli sauce
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Beef or chicken patty
  • Egg

How many burgers can you sell in a day?

The number of burgers you can sell highly depends on the location of your stall and your quality (for sure), hence, we suggest you look at setting up stall within neighbourhood areas, nearby Mamak stalls, cyber cafes, apartments or even convenience stores. This way, you will have a higher chance of securing more customers.

On average, an ‘Ayam Special Burger’ is priced at RM4 to RM5 these days and you can sell up to 20 or 30 similarly priced burgers in one day (depending on the crowd), which makes the total revenue of the day at least RM80 a day. If you decided to operate every day (without a rest day), you are likely to make about RM2,400. To make more you need more customers or extend your selling hours during the weekend.

However, you will need to deduct your monthly operating costs from your revenue so you can get a clear picture of your net profit.

Estimated net profit per month

Formula 1: RM2,400 (Revenue) – RM400 (raw material and minor operating costs) = RM2,000 (Net Profit)

However, let’s not forget your initial startup cost. To break even, it might take you about 6-12 months. You can divide the initial start-up cost of RM5,000 by 6 months or 12 months and deduct that amount from your monthly revenue to get the real net profit.

For example, RM5,000 divided by 12 months = RM417.

Formula 2: RM2,400 (Revenue) – RM417 (fixed costs) – RM400 (raw material & operating costs) = RM1,583

This only applies until you break even. After the first 12 month period ended, you can use Formula 1 to calculate your net profit. If you ever need to buy new equipment or utensil for upgrades, you can always use Formula 2 to decide your break-even period, revenue estimation as well as net profit within the period.

Pros and cons of selling Ramly burgers in Malaysia

rising costs of groceries & food in Malaysia

Like many careers, you will need to think this through before deciding to jump in. We compiled both positives and negatives so you can have a better picture before making your decision.

Pros:

  1. A flexible schedule. You get to decide your opening hours and location considering the small size of a burger stall.
  2. You can interact with people in your neighbourhood. This is a good way to know your neighbours and the wider community.
  3. On a good day, you can sell as high as 50 burgers if you are fast and hard working When there’s a big game on, like a football match or badminton tournament, you can expect a healthy number of customers and extend your operating hours to earn more than usual.
  4. You make your own rules. Whether it is outfits, standard procedures or closing earlier than usual, you get to make the call as an owner. You can even do this as a part-time business after your 9-5 job.

Cons:

  1. The inconsistent number of customers. You cannot expect to make the same amount of money two days in a row, and this can cause headaches over time as it will be a challenge to estimate your income.
  2. The weather can work against you. Heavy rain or storms not only keep your customers away, but it can cause physical damage to your stall if the weather is hectic enough.
  3. Safety and security concerns. You might want to consider the safety and security matters of the location before opening a burger stall. This is to ensure you don’t lose all your money you make a whole night to theft.
  4. You will need to break even in the first year of your business which can be stressful. Or else, it might not even worth the effort to continue if you do not make a profit.

Should you run a Ramly Burger stall?

Yes, you should if you meet these requirements:

  • You can afford the RM5,000 – RM6,000 start-up costs
  • You have the flexibility of time to commit to operating your Ramly burger
  • You can afford to make monthly repayments to your personal loan, if necessary. Check out the monthly installments here based on the loan amount you need.
  • You are good at cooking and have a great customer service.

Panduan Berniaga Bisnes Food Truck Di Malaysia

  • By CompareHero.my

Pengiraan untung bersih (anggaran)

Potensi cerah perniagaan trak makanan

7 Investment Lessons You Should Learn From Successful Investors

  • By CompareHero.my

Are you planning to invest? Here are some tips from successful investors so that you can apply them when you start to invest your hard-earned money.

1. Have an investment philosophy

“Opportunities come infrequently. When it rains gold, put out the bucket, not the thimble” those are the words of wisdom from perhaps one of the greatest modern day investors Warren Buffet.

Warren Buffett’s investment philosophy has always been about strong conviction. He understands the business and if he considers it worthy, he bets big on it. Lot of novice investors try to copy it, without actually having the acumen of Buffett, and lose money.

People who don’t have an investment philosophy to guide them can go after fads and trends and these are not stable in the long term.

Related: 7 Smart Ways To Invest And Grow RM10,000

2. Loss minimisation works too

Benjamin Graham’s The Intelligent Investor: The Definitive Book on Value Investing preaches the philosophy of loss minimisation over profit maximisation as an investment strategy. Graham wants investors to develop a rational plan when investing in stocks and bonds that is shielded from emotional behaviour that could manifest during bull and bear markets. Warren Buffett called Graham’s book the “best book on investing ever written.”

3. Invest in stocks

Speaking of Warren Buffett, the Berkshire Hathaway Chairman and legendary investor is a fan of investing in stocks. He told USA Today that “the nice thing about investing in stocks is that, over time, equities are going to do well.” Buffett’s view of stocks is supported by CNN Money guide on investment basics that pointed out how stocks “have historically outperformed all other investments.” Over the long term, stocks have returned close to 10%. Bonds are the next best performing asset class according to CNN Money.

4. Own low-cost index funds

Buffett does not recommend that investors try to pick winning stocks. He advises investors to “own a cross sector of businesses that in aggregate are bound to do well.” This can be done by investing in low-cost index funds. In fact, Buffett has instructed his trustees to invest 90% of the cash for his wife into a low-cost S&P index fund if he passes away.

5. Take the long term view

Buffett also recommends stocks as a long-term investment so he ignores the macroeconomics and political environments that could make the stock price move in the short term. Buffett always looks at stocks as owning a piece of a business so he looks at the earning potential of these businesses over the next five years or more.

6. Try to Avoid Fees

Broker fees can eat away at your investment’s returns, that’s why Buffett is a fan of low-cost index funds. Fund manager Peter Lynch and author of Learn to Earn: A Beginner’s Guide to the Basics of Investing and Business tells readers in the book about “direct investment programs” wherein investors can invest directly from the company and the investor gets to buy more shares every month without paying fees and without a broker. Investors need to do their research about which company is best to invest in first before going with this strategy.

7. Know if the company has a solution that improves customers’ lives

But which company should you invest in, you ask? Successful entrepreneur and investor Richard Branson shared his advice that could guide you in figuring out which one to invest in, particularly if you want to invest in startups. Branson says that if he understands a startup’s product or service at first glance, then customers will also understand it. If the product or service solves a problem, then there’s a good chance that some will buy the product or service. By extension, Branson’s idea can be applied to established companies: ask yourself if the company’s product or service is improving the lives of many before you invest in it.

Learning from others who have been successful in their field can provide a blueprint on how to become successful in your own way. Investors can look up to the likes of Warren Buffett, Peter Lynch, Richard Branson, George Soros, and Benjamin Graham to get ideas on how to become successful. Do your research on the stocks available and the companies behind them before you make an investment and make sure that you understand the risks so that you can maximise profits and minimise losses in your investment.

5 Examples Of Car Insurance Fraud That You Must Know

  • By CompareHero.my
  • February 17, 2021

It is important to be familiar with the type of car insurance fraud and road scams so that you know what to do when facing such situations. Read below to find out some common examples of car insurance fraud in Malaysia.

We’ve seen the news and social media postings where victims share their experience encountering car insurance fraud and road scams. You may even have friends or family members who have faced fraudsters — those who want to cheat the system and make money from such false claims.

Although most of us have car insurance, we may not understand the underlying rules and conditions that the insurers put into the policy. This situation allows fraudsters to take advantage of our lack of knowledge and use it to make illegal profit through trickery.

Some cases of car insurance fraud may be difficult to spot and you could be committing them without realising it. In this article, we share with you some examples of car insurance fraud and road scams in Malaysia, how you can watch out for them and, most importantly, not becoming a victim.

What is car insurance fraud?

Motor or auto insurance fraud is when someone makes a fraudulent insurance claim in return for payment. It involves filing false or exaggerated claims involving vehicle damage or personal injuries following an accident.

There are two main categories of auto insurance fraud:

  • Hard insurance fraud: Creating a fake situation to file for an insurance claim. A common example is when someone stages a car accident.
  • Soft insurance fraud: Exaggerating the damages or expenses involved in car insurance claims. A common example is when someone makes unnecessary repairs at the workshop with the goal of charging the insurer a higher bill.

Six types of car insurance fraud and road scams

Here’s a list of car insurance fraud and road scams, and what to do if you fall prey to the situation:

1. Tow truck scams

tow-truck-scam-examples-of-car-insurance-fraud-scams
If your car broke down on the side of the road, do not allow a towing company to take your car unless you called them.

A tow truck scam is considered to be the most common road scam in Malaysia. The scammers would usually leave debris, oil, metal nails or glass shards on the road and wait for any potential victims to fall into the trap — those who fall for this trap would lose control of their vehicle and get into an accident.

If you’re involved in this type of situation, a tow truck will suddenly appear to assist you just minutes after the accident. They would offer to provide towing service at a ridiculous price that could cost you up to thousands of ringgit. The scammers would try to persuade and pressure you to use their towing service, especially when your car is obstructing the road.

An even worse scenario to be in is when you don’t have another option, and are forced to agree with their offer. They would secretly tow your car to their own workshop instead of the police station or the panel workshop approved by your insurance company. Once you’ve reached this far, they would take advantage of the situation and force you to pay another sum of money for your car to be released.

What should you do: Try not to panic. Politely reject their offer and let them know that you would only use the towing service provided by your car insurance company. Take a picture or video of what caused you to get into an accident, for example, the oil slick on the road, jot down the tow truck’s plate number and lodge a police report. Call your insurer as soon as possible and wait for the tow truck to come.

2. Staged or fake accidents

staged-accident-examples-of-car-insurance-fraud-scams
Fake car accidents are set up by fraudsters who are looking to commit car insurance fraud or file a fraudulent personal injury claim.

Staged or fake accidents can happen while you’re driving, reversing or parking your car.

For example, the scammer will suddenly appear in their car behind you while you’re reversing, making it look like you crashed into them. Your car only bears little to no damage while the scammer’s car would appear to be in a bad condition. They will blame you for the damage and pressure you to go to the police station, in which the scammer allegedly has a secret connection with the policemen in charge and forces you to pay for summons. The scammer will also then try to force you to pay for the damage repair through an insurance policy.

What should you do: Go to the nearest police station instead of the police station they insisted to go. Try to remain calm and do not get into an argument with the scammer. Be alert of the surrounding while reversing, driving or parking your car. The best way you can do is to invest in a front and rear dashboard camera for your car. You can use the recording as a piece of evidence of what actually happened.

3. Emergency brake scams

emergency-brake-scam-examples-of-car-insurance-fraud-scams
Emergency break scammers would taunt you by speeding up their car and then slam on their brakes several times until you hit them.

Similar to the above situation; the scammer will purposely speed up their car and slam on their brakes numerous times until you hit the back of their car. If you didn’t know, in most cases, whoever hits a vehicle from the back will always be at fault. However, you may not be entirely at fault for the collision if you have witnesses or proofs of what actually happened. The scammers do this to extort money from victims for repair and medical costs.

What should you do: If you notice that the vehicle in front of you keeps on slamming their brake, start slowing down and maintain a safe distance. If the scammer continues to harass you on the road, do not engage by speeding because you will likely make the situation even more dangerous. Drive to the nearest police station to get help.

4. Overstating the claim amount

overstating-claim-amount-examples-of-car-insurance-fraud-scams
Overstating or exaggerating an insurance claim is a crime.

After you’ve been involved in an accident, you would want to claim the amount of loss from your insurance company. Dishonest policyholders may take the opportunity to incorporate damage costs that are not from the accident. This would lead to higher costs reported in the bill for repairs than what was actually paid.

Although you could convince the mechanic to work with you on this illegal mission, exaggerating the amount of loss in your car insurance claim is considered insurance fraud. If you’re found guilty, you will be charged with a higher insurance premium in the future.

What should you do: Be honest with the claim amount and state the exact amount of loss in your car insurance claim.

5. Claiming under another driver’s name

other-drivers-name-examples-of-car-insurance-fraud-scams
You will have to bear a compulsory excess of RM400 when making a claim if your car was being driven by someone who is not named in your insurance policy.

If your car was involved in an accident while it was being driven by your cousin (who is not registered as Named Driver in your insurance policy), you will have to bear a compulsory excess of RM400 when making a claim.

Wanting to avoid that exorbitant additional fee, you decide to list your name as the responsible driver in your claim. If you’re caught faking the driver’s identity, your policy may be cancelled and legal actions can be taken against you for filing fraudulent claims.

What should you do: Be upfront when submitting the car insurance claim. Your insurer will investigate all the details that you submitted and if you’re found guilty, you don’t want to face the legal consequences. Make sure that you include all regular users of your car in the Named Drivers list. Most insurers allow you to add up to two Named Drivers per policy for free. For additional names, you will only be charged RM10 per name.

Cara Untuk Memperbaharui Insurans Kereta Dan Road Tax Anda Di Malaysia

  • By CompareHero.my
  • February 15, 2021

3. Periksa nilai No Claim Discount (NCD)

Tempoh perlindunganKadar diskaun NCD
Tahun Pertama25%
Tahun Kedua30%
Tahun Ketiga38.3%
Tahun Keempat45%
Tahun Kelima55%
